2007-2008 FAMILY NIGHT OUT
We are
proud to present this years Family Night Out.
Thursday April 24th, 2008
5:45-8:15

Presenting the Carnegie Science Center On The Road programs.

Oh no! Someone has stolen all of the colors from the city of Spectropolis… and we need your help to restore color to the city!

In the Great Color Caper, help solve the mystery of the missing colors as you learn about the nature of light, how colors are derived from light and pigments, and how we see and perceive them. Join local scientists from PPG Industries in this fast-paced adventure. With high-energy, interactive, multimedia demonstrations on the scientific principles behind color and light, the Great Color Caper is the most brilliant show we’ve ever taken on the road!
Fire and
Ice

What happens to matter when it gets
really hot and really cold? This audience participation game show pits the
Fire Team against the Ice Team in a collection of exciting and explosive
visual demonstrations. Students learn about combustion, the fire triangle
and see what happens as items are frozen at 320 degrees below zero in our
liquid nitrogen.

Be
sure to ask your children about what they are doing in their science
classes, what type of assemblies they are having...what type of
experiments they are carrying out. It's all going to tie in with our
Family Night Out 2008!

2006-2007 FAMILY NIGHT OUT
This years Family Night Out will be held on Thursday March 29, 2007. Registration and raffle entry will begin at 5:45, with dinner starting at 6:00 pm. This years Family Night will be focused on the wildness of your family life, professional life and your childrens’ student lives. It’s a situation that we all face. We will start off the evening by having a family dinner in our cafeteria. Following dinner we will split into two groups for our entertainment for the evening.
The parents will be attending
a presentation by Dr. Ray Guarendi, a clinical psychologist, author, public
speaker, radio host and father of 10...yes, 10 children. Dr. Guarendi can be
heard weekdays on the “On Call with Dr. Ray and Friends” radio program which is broadcast on
avemariaradio.com, Relevant Radio, or wdeo.org.
You can listen to a few of his recorded radio show excerpts by visiting his
recordings page by clicking
here. His experience includes
school districts, Head Start Programs, mental heath centers, substance abuse
programs, inpatient psychiatric centers, juvenile courts, and a private
practice. You can check out his site at
DrRay.com for more information. Keep an eye out in your
childrens’ papers for some informative tidbits that will be discussed that
evening.
The children will be treated
to some fun entertainment on this evening. PAC has arranged for an
educational exotic animal show to a magician
and some other entertainment for the kids that evening.
What is the difference
between alligators and crocodiles? Are alligators man-eaters? Are all
scorpions deadly? Why are snakes important? Why do skunks have stripes? What
animal is the closest living relative to the dinosaur? What is a legless
lizard? These questions and many more will be answered using age-appropriate
dialogue.
The show consists of a variety of animals including scorpion, toad,
alligator snapping turtle, tortoise, alligator, crocodile, legless lizard,
snake, European eagle owl, skunk, fennec fox, binturong, monkey and a
leopard. Please note that some specific animals may vary depending on which
trainer performs your show.
Each animal is brought out separately and discussed. Some interaction is
permitted with certain animals. It is the goal to educate while
entertaining. They will explain the importance of nature and wildlife
and give suggestions as to how everyone can help our environment. One of the
main objectives of the show is to make people aware that every animal is
important, since they all perform a job in the wild, that all together makes
nature work properly.
We enjoy answering questions about nature and wildlife. We also try to
lessen fears that some people have of animals like snakes and alligators.
All of our animals are raised by us, usually starting off in our house. They
are professionals! We do, however, emphasize that they are NOT pets.
Following the presentations we will get together in the gym to wrap up the night with our raffles. Great prizes, as always, will be given away to some lucky students AND parents!!
You can register at the door or in advance by clicking here.
