MISSION STATEMENT

To provide the premier adult medical genetics service for the New York Metropolitan area—a center of excellence.
To advance the state of the art in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of familial conditions.
To reduce patients’ risks for premature illness while controlling their fears and anxieties.
To relieve other medical professionals of the burden of providing services in this rapidly developing field.

Dr. Lubin specializes in risk information, screening, diagnosis and management of hereditary and familial conditions affecting adults. His goal is to reduce patients' risks for premature illness, while reducing their fears and anxieties. Patients are seen with personal histories or family histories of conditions suggesting an inherited or familial risk for disease. These include cancers, heart disease, strokes, connective tissue disorders, psychiatric issues and many others. Couples can be seen for prenatal screening. Children are seen for disorders that are commonly considered adult conditions. Laboratory tests for many genetic conditions are available and samples are sent to various centers for analysis, after patients are appropriately informed and consent is obtained. A definitive diagnosis (or the exclusion) of a genetic disorder can be empowering for an individual at risk. With a definitive diagnosis, the natural history of a condition can be predicted and the patient can take advantage of screening, prevention and treatment.
Dr. Lubin is board certified in internal medicine and completed his subspecialty training in medical genetics with a special interest in genetics of adult conditions at UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He has conducted research in genetics and is a co-author on several scientific publications including early papers on the discovery and characterization of the BRCA1, breast cancer, gene.
