This adventure has already begun for the scouts that are registered. Most of the registered participants have completed their PADI Scuba certification during the summer and fall of 2007. This trip combines the best of sailing and SCUBA diving for one incredible adventure. On this we will sail around and dive on the coral reefs surrounding the Florida Keys. During our trip to and from the Florida Sea Base we hope to make several stops so we can get a feel for the real Florida instead of the Disney image so popular to Americans.
This is an Anthony Wayne Area Council event. There are only 12 openings for this trip. That’s supposed to be 10 Scouts and 2 adult leaders: more adults may participate if we can’t fill the youth openings. Cost information and the payment schedule are included on the application form that is downloadable on the right.
Here are the trip specifics:
• Council Guidelines specify that the contingent consist of 10 youth and 2 adult leaders.
Additional adults will only be added if we fail to enroll enough youth to fill the 10
available youth spots.
• This will be at least a twelve day trip with two days of travel leading up to and two days
of travel following our Sea Base adventure an additional day of travel on the front
may be added to make for more relaxed travel.
• The contingent will depart from the AWAC Service Center on July 2 or 3, 2008 and
return July 14, 2008.
• An 8 day Sea Base adventure (8 days, 7 nights). First and last nights are on land in the
Sea Base sailing dorms. Yes, that means 6 full days and 5 nights at sea!

before April 1, 2008.
• If you are already certified, the Scuba Training charge ($225.00) will be waived.
• The schooner will be crewed by a Captain, 1st Mate, and a Scuba Divemaster from
Sea Base in addition to the 12 participants in the adventure.
• Sailing and diving is on a USCG inspected 57-foot schooner named the Conch Pearl.
Click on the link above for more information about this boat.
• Between dives your tanks will be filled with a compressor on board the schooner.
• Up to 15 dives (weather permitting), including 3 night dives are planned.

• All participants must meet the Sea Base Height/Weight restrictions available on page 3 of the “Sea Base Health & Medical Record” found on the Sea Base Forms page of this web site.

This may be a once in a lifetime trip for our youth. I’m sure the scouts that attend will learn and grow from this experience.
